Word @2014 Michael D. Lancaster

So many words
How do I discern
Your word?
So many voices
Talking heads
How do I discern
Your voice
Quiet the noise
Unplug
Go off the grid
And tune in
To Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John
That's The Word
That I need
Today and always

"Free" @2014 Michael D. Lancaster

Oh,
Life giving Spirit,
Free me from
The anxiety of
Blah, blah, blah
That I may
Sing and dance
For you
That I might be
The paint brush
In your hand,
Conveying
The light of
Your grace,
The rich colors
Of your mercy

"One" @2014 Michael D. Lancaster

One,
We were meant to be
One
Pulled, stretched, enticed
To other loyalties,
Other allegiances,
Even good ones
Friends, family
Yanked and tugged
To let others
Influence me
More than you
Reset.  Refresh.  Renew.  Daily.
One
Once again

"Dreary" @2014 Michael D. Lancaster

Dreary little drops
Of sadness
Drip off my gutter
That's clogged with cluttered crap,
A cacophony of crud
Dreary little drops
Of sadness
Mixed with
Joy and peace
Dreary little day
Of recuperation
Spiritually dry
And physically exhausted
And still  . . .
A backdrop of
Crystal clear light
Brightens the hue
Of a day of doldrums and drums
From John Coltrane's
"A Love Supreme"
Dreary little drops
Of crystal light
Shine on the
Black asphalt of
A new day
Dreary little drops,
Doldrums, Drums
And . . . slow joy

"Crack" @2014 Michael D. Lancaster

Crack!
And the Stone is rolled away
Crack!
And the fight is o'er
Crack!
And the thorns
Pierce skull
Crack!
And the trial is over
Crack!
And the blood sweat
Hits the ground
Crack!
And bread breaks and becomes body
Crack!
Wine meets lips and changes to blood
Crack!
Goes the whip that
Cleared the Temple
Crack!
Goes the alabaster
Jar of costly perfume
Crack!
Goes the woman's
Prison wall at the well
Crack!
Goes the rocks
Falling from the sinner's hands
Who want to stone
The adulterous woman but not the man
Crack!
Goes Bart's darkness
Crack!
Goes the storm on
The Sea of Galilee
Crack!
Goes the loaves and fishes
And fed over 5,000
Crack!
Goes the rocks on the
Hill at Nazareth
When they remember Jesus'
Sisters and Brothers
Crack!
Goes the
Teachers' minds
Because of this
Twelve year old
Son of Man
Crack!
Goes the eyes of
Simon and Anna
At the Sight of Him
Crack!
Goes the heavens
Over the shepherds' fields
As the choir of angels
Sang Hallelujah,
Centuries before Handel
Crack!
Goes the water
When Mary's son
Was born
Crack!
Goes the Veil
Between heaven and earth
When the Spirit
Dances with Mary
Crack!
Goes the dark chaos
And then . . .
                     There
                               Was
                                      Light!

"Lights" @2014 Michael D. Lancaster

Turn on the lights!
Open the windows
And let the
Sun shine in
Breathe the warm air
Gaze at the daffodills
Spring is in the air!
Winter, the Terrible has launched
His last brutal charge
But now, Queen Spring is
On Her way
No more shall
Cold reign
No more
Bare, Gray, Brown, and Black
From now on
Fullness, Green, Red, and Yellow
Light has dawned!
Spring is here!
Turn on the lights!
